GUEST INFO
Around us
Nature
Whether you want to experience the fjord, the mountains or the glacier Folgefonna, Sjøtunet is a good starting point for both day trips and longer journeys. We have boats for rent and you can borrow our kayaks and fishing equipment. Feel free to ask us for tips.
Culture
Hardanger is a region with a rich history and a thriving cultural life. Ask us about the farm’s history and what is on the program when you visit.
Local food
If you want to get a taste of Hardanger while you’re here, the road is short to locally produced gold. The chefs of Hardanger, old and new, have a lot to offer whether you want to taste traditional local food or non-traditional food using local ingredients. We are more than willing to share our favorites!
And, we love to cook from scratch with local ingredients. We want you, our guest, to come to a kitchen that makes it possible to do the same. Let us know if you’re missing something in the kitchen.
Local food within walking distance
Here in Sjøtunet…
we grow plums and raspberries. You can buy our homemade jam in the farm shop, known for its rich taste and low sugar content. Feel free to use the herbs around the greenhouse when you are cooking.
Joint farm shop for the farms here in the Rykkje hamlet
The hamlet we live in is called Rykkje, and we are lucky to be surrounded by wonderful neighbours and several farms who deliver high quality products to shops and restaurants i the Hardanger area. At the top of the road you will find the self-service farm shop at Tone and Ivars farm “Kjøkkenhagen på Rykkje”. There you will find their organic vegetables, organic meats from sheep and pork from Cecilie and Tarjeis neighbouring farm Bjørnebruket, and of course our jam. You fill also find some organic products and other local products depending on the season.
Fishing and gathering
Borrow a fishing rod and try your luck from our piers, or rent a boat and go fishing on the fjord. We most often catch cod, lyre and mackerel. Depending on the season, Sjøtunet is in a good area for wild garlic (“ramsløk”), porcini and chanterelles.
