Sjøtunet is located in the middle of Hardanger, surrounded by raw nature, historical landscapes and an large diversity of food and drink producers.
And – although Hardanger is beautiful as a fairy tale in the summer, life in Sjøtunet is wonderful all year round. In the autumn the forest and mountains are magical, in the winter our boathouses calms you down like nothing else, and in the spring we are surrounded by newborn lambs and flowering fruit trees.
When you stay with us, you are at a great starting point for adventures on the fjord and in the mountains, in nature and culture. Award-winning cider and food producers are just a short car or boat ride away. Ask us about off-the-beaten-track mountain hikes, local produces and where you can catch trout or cod.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
local food and produce
If you want to get a taste of Hardanger while you’re here, you have come to the right part of the fjord. We are working on equipping each boathouse kitchen in the same way as our own – so that you can cook all the food you would like to. Without being limited by a lack of equipment. Around our greenhouse you can pick fresh herbs in the summer season, and in our farm sale you can find our home made marmalade all year round.
In our neighbourhood of farms you can get fresh farm eggs, ecological lamb and vegetables (in season). Near us you can also find vegetables and fruit, meat, cheese and dairy products, beer, cider and apple juice. Many farmers and producers also offer tours and experiences, such as cider safaris.
The local chefs, old and new, has a lot to offer whether you want to taste traditional local food or non-traditional food made from local ingredients. They can surprise you with stone oven-baked pizza that you’d think came straight out of Italy, exquisite gourmet food at hidden gems along the fjord. If you want to taste traditional food from Hardanger, several local restaurants and cafes offers potato cakes, varieties of smoked meat, mince steak and the potato ball “komle”.
We are happy to share our favorites with our guests.
NATURE
from the fjord to the mountains
With the view from Sjøtunet, it is easy to long for the mountains in summer and winter.
If you enjoy mountain skiing mid-winter, you can ski all the way from us to Voss if you want. If you are up for winter in the summer, the road across the fjord to the ski center and the glacier hikes at Folgefonna is an experience in itself.
In the summer, the farmers takes the livestock from the fjord to the mountains, and the old tracks lets you explore the mountains around the fjord undisturbed and at your own pace. Our track takes us deep into the side fjord Fyksesundet, up the spectacular Botnadalen valley to our shelter at Hamlagrøvatnet.
Tell us what you want to experience and we will send you in the right direction.
